A chill is beginning to sweep in, with the leaves beginning to turn a burnt orange that is simply stunning, and Starbucks is selling everything pumpkin spice. Yes, autumn is officially almost here! For many people it is their favourite time of year – it is the time to enjoy crackling fires and Halloween, hot chocolate, crunchy leaves, and comfortable wool cardigans. It is also a sign for the fashion industry to show a fairly major shift, with summer clothing lines disappearing for warmer styles to take their place. So what can we expect seeing this autumn on the rails, and what should we be getting rid of from last year’s fashion?
Forget about all of those misconceptions that you had about animal prints being tacky, since they are coming roaring back for autumn 2018! In particular, leopard and zebra appear to be among this year’s top favourites, with designers such as Tom Ford, Balenciaga, Givenchy, Calvin Klein, and Victoria Beckham all including them in their lines. A majority of designers appear to be pairing them with back accents to make prints really pop, so that appears to be a very popular option for anybody attempting to rock this autumn with animal prints. Leopard print shoes and coats will probably be the way that high street represents this trend this year, but you may also find some crocodile, cheetah, zebra, and snake patterns available as well. And although the natural, neutral tones are a lot more prominent, you might spot more whacky and wild colours out there as well. And if you are concerned about the impact that all of this fur print will have, you don’t need to worry. Even the major luxury houses and bigger names are avoiding using real fur, and choosing to use faux fur alternatives instead in order to achieve those chic safari looks.
The biggest autumn trend this year appears to be about embracing that inner Shrek of yours. So you don’t need to worry, it isn’t all ogres and green! Instead extreme and regular layering have come back in a very big way. Why should you select one favourite coat to wear for this season when instead you can wear two, three, or even seven instead? That may appear to be going a bit too far, however last months on the catwalks there were some very adventurous combinations of waterproofs, capes, puffa jackets, and blanket throws. So instead of only snuggling up this autumn in one jumper, fashion designers strongly believe that this same warm and comfortable look can be achieved with multiple layers. This can be achieved by fastening your trench coat and scarf together, or by matching an overcoat and blazer, or pair of jeans and shirtdress for an incredibly smart and elegant day look. IN general, the more layers you wear, the better!
The 1970’s Are Back
The 1970’s appear to be that fashion decade that never quits, as it continues to make reappearances on a regular basis over the history of fashion. This autumn, it is all about the the sepia-tone retro feeling. Similar to dunking a biscuit in steaming hot tea. From Chloe’s ode to all that is brown, to the chocolate and beige accessories and clothes from Fendi, brown definitely has the top spot right now as ‘the new black.’ Whether you are going for slouchy Sunday, or casual, smart, uptown girl, it has got to be tobacco, toffee, tan, caramel, or any variation of the colour caramel this autumn.
Glitz and glam was definitely one of this summer’s biggest trends, from crystals to glitter and everything in between that gives a nice shine. It looks the same will be holding true this autumn. The coolest brands and designers are helping us to be able to channel our inner magpies by incorporating fake diamonds and crystals into everything, from hair clips and earrings to sunglasses and even boots. From gleaming barrettes to trainers with big jewels, there are crystal items for suiting every individual taste. Therefore, this autumn you can expect jewellery departments and shops all over the world to be completely dripping in faux diamonds.
